Two Dinosaurs Walk into a Bar

“Two dinosaurs walk into a bar, but it’s a Stegosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus Rex, and so we all know that this is a fiction.”

On residency in Wyoming, I began to dream about dinosaurs. Dinosaur fossil beds dot the landscape of northern Wyoming and southern Montana. Close to these relics I became intoxicated with imaginations of Deep Time, how life on Earth has been recreated over and over and over again. The planet we live on can become so strange.

In this moment of climate crisis, we are once again becoming strange. What kind of knowledge can be passed down, from one geological period to another? In what ways does living on a rapidly warming planet change the ways we understand time?

Two Dinosaurs Walk into a Bar (2018) excerpts text from Other Fantasies for Extinction, and collapses our senses of past, present, and forward progress. Video was taken at the Ucross Foundation, which itself is an Audubon Society designated “important Bird Area.”
